Bovey Tracey
Firstly thank you to Kim for holding this event at her yard. In this demonstration we talked about the importance of having a horse’s mind with us and developing feel and timing while aiming to maintain responsiveness and softness within ourselves and in our horses. Apollo demonstrated how the feel between horse and rider instigates the quality of lateral work and transitions. I rode Apollo in a bridle, then headoller, then with only a rope around his neck and then with nothing on his head or neck. This was to demonstrated that know matter what we ride our horse in (bridle, headcoller, rope) the horse should clearly understand and find comfort in following the feel of our direction. While riding without anything on Apollo's head or neck we discussed how horses pick up on the feel of our intention, whole body and legs for direction.

The two photos directly above are of Apollo going up a bank forwards and backing up the bank one step at a time while maintaining a softness through his body.
After a tea break I worked with Morgan's horse Ash. Ash is 4yrs old and had only experienced 15 rides in his life. We talked about the importance of 'going with' a young horse in order for them to get with us and follow our feel to go at any speed and to stand quietly. Then I went on to show how I approach helping a young horse to understand the meaning of each rein.
Thank you to everyone for coming along.
